On June 15, 1927 at 8:00AM The Municipal Ambulance Service was
started in Baltimore. Medic 5 received one of the first five units
placed in service at this time. Before this service was started the
sick and wounded were carried to the hospitals in Police Patrol
Wagons. Mayor Howard W. Jackson placed the new service under
the control of the Fire Department despite protests from the
Hospitals and Medical groups because Doctors were not to be
carried on the units.
